Some people were even thrown to the ground and handcuffed, allegedly for public intoxication. Numerous people were arrested and rough-housed without any specific reason. This morning, the Dallas Voice reported that The Rainbow Lounge, a new gay bar in Fort Worth, west of Dallas, was raided early this morning. Well, except last night in Fort Worth, Texas. While the gay rights movement far exceeds even the formation of the Mattachine Society nearly 60 years ago (in 1950), the events in Greenwich Village on that summer night in 1969 further organized, and arguably shaped a surge in the pursuit of those rights. Overnight, the GLBTQ community “celebrated” the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City.
